Happy Mother's Day!

Me and my two babies
Happy Mother's Day to all my mommy friends. I hope you all feel special today because frankly, we all deserve it. I was spoiled today with a pancake breakfast from the boys, cards, and a spa day from Gene Juarez!! I can't wait to use that one. I'm trying to decide between a massage and a facial, any ideas? This is my first Mother's Day having two children so it feels extra special. This is also my first Mother's Day without my grandma. I've been thinking a lot about her today, so I guess today has been bitter-sweet. I did enjoy the sermon at church. It was about bringing up our children in Godly ways. I thought it was a great reminder that I need to be teaching and talking to my children about God constantly. I've been wanting to do a devotional type study with Brayden for awhile and just don't know how to go about it. He's two, so things can't be too in depth, but I also know he can learn a lot of things now. To all my mommy friends, anyone have any ideas to teach a 2 year old about God? I would love to hear them.

Happy Mother's Day to you, too! How fun that you get some pampering . . I would recommend a massage as I get one monthly for my headaches and can't live without them. Facials are nice, too, though . . either way, it will be relaxing. In terms of teaching a 2-year old about Jesus . . you should borrow my "Psalty the singing songbook" CDs. They are from the 80s, but they're so great and based on scripture. I have the whole series of them, thanks to my mom. There are about 10 songs on each one with dialogue between Psalty and a group of kids. Each one has a theme, like camping or an international potluck. I grew up on them and could probably recite any of them at a moment's notice if I had to. :)

Love your thoughts on the day! I couldn't agree more. And I am sorry about this being tough on you with your grandma. I know it has been very hard on all of yall, and I am truly sorry. She was absolutely a wonderful lady and what an influence she was on all of yall. Anyhow, about teaching Brayden, we are trying to do the same thing with Jake. We have Miss Pattycake videos, which drive Aaron nuts...but they are good Bible lessons and songs. But they are videos...which I am not a fan of...but ya know. There are music CDs, too. Anyhow, we talk about the songs and what God made, and about how God loves us SO much, and He sent His son Jesus, etc. etc. You get the point. We have the Praise Baby CDs, and Cedarmont Kids Hymns and Praise CDs, etc. And Aaron reads the Bible with him everyday and he LOVES that. He has his Bible and Aaron has his, and together they "highlight" their verses. Anyhow, now I expect you to let me know what you come up with...I'm always looking for new ideas, so let me know. Love ya! And Happy Mother's Day to you...you are great!

I'm interested in what people might say about teaching little ones about Jesus. One conclusion I've come to is that I want to talk about God/Jesus not just formally (like everyday devotions), but also just in our casual conversation. I want Travis' faith to be something that is natural to him and not set aside for Sundays, hoidays, or even just for mealtime prayer and daily devotions...know what I mean? So I guess my point is that my only suggestion is to yes, make a big deal of spending time learning about God and growing, but also to make it NOT a big deal, but a natural, constant thing. (It's late...I hope that made sense!)

I second Laura on the Psalty CD's, or on any CD's that use music. Nothing will help kids (or us) learn scripture more effectively than putting it to music. Even for non-musician types!

And if you come across any good kids devotion books (like for T and Brayden's age), let me know!

I'm glad you had such a wonderful Mother's Day. I think you should go for the massage. They are wonderful! Speaking as a massage therapist and who has a husband who is a massage therapist. :) I like to read Makayla her little toddler Bible. I also have a CD that has the ABC's with scripture. So each letter has a scripture song that includes where it's found in the Bible. For instance...for C. Children obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Ephesians 6:1. It's been great for the kids to learn scripture, but also for me too.
